Upon returning home from a year-long trip though Asia, I set to work designing and producing a series of phrase books conceived one hungry, perplexing night in a Chinese hotel room. The language barrier had really gotten in the way of the most basic needs, so I made flashcards with pages from my notebook with hand-drawn pictures and phrases (in Chinese characters) to speak for me. The technique worked so well, I knew I had to turn the idea into a book. Me No Speak has eight titles and an iPhone app these days. It's my pet project and side business...
